Messing around with ink and brush.

Revisited a drawing from an earlier post. Trying to make things read clearly without the whole thing becoming a stiff mess. The operative word being, "trying".

Another excericse i've been doing is drawing two characters interacting with each other. Never intended it to be a sequence, but the drawings started to relate with eachother and i went with it.

The drawing above was inspired by one of my favorite toys as a kid: BOGLINS. They were a collection of creepy hand puppets, complete with shifty glow-in-the-dark eyes. Being made of rubber, you could contort their faces into all sorts of gnarly expressions. Drool(featured below) was my favorite one. Despite all the good times we shared together, i eventually grew bored of him and coldly tossed him up onto a telephone pole. I would regretfully stare up at his lifeless rubber corpse each morning on the way to school until one day he was gone. Sorry Drool. I didn't know any better.

It's rare that you'll see a drawing from me where the females are fully clothed. A lot of that has to do with my complete lack of fashion sense, and also my inability to make anything beyond a two piece bikini look good. With that in mind, i took a couple of my fiancee's fashion mags and attempted to incorporate a few outfits onto my drawings. Here's two that didn't completely suck.

I took Stephen Silver's character design class last year. Great experience. I took another crack at one of my designs i made while taking the class. The inked drawing is the one i made while taking the class, while the red prisma sketches are my most recent passes.

Here's a pocket pin up. I like drawing VERY small at first, so i can concentrate on the pose. My drawing area is littered with post its and little scraps of lined paper. Nothing frightens me more than a large sheet of blank paper.

I bought a set of those "earth tone" pitt brush pens, and they are awesome. Tried inking a girly with a dark brown instead of black, and i like the way it works with marker colors. Here's my experiment from last night.
